Provocative ads at Metro-North stations

MYFOXNY.COM -

Posters showing the shrinking Palestinian territory on display at Metro-North Railroad platforms are raising eyebrows.

The ads show four maps with the headline "4.7 million Palestinians are classified by the U. N. as Refugees."

Some members of the Jewish community say the posters are anti-Semitic and could lead to acts of aggression.

They say the billboard oversimplifies a complex problem.

The ads were reportedly paid for by a former Wall Street financier who lives in Connecticut. He paid $25,000 to run the posters.

"People need to know the truth of the matter," Henry Clifford is quoted at LoHud.com. People should have "an open mind," said Clifford.

The signs have been seen at stations in Mount Kisco, White Plains, Tarrytown and Chappaqua, reported LoHud.com.

A group called StandWithUs told MyFoxNY.com that it is countering the ads with its own campaign. StandWithUs said it will place at least 50 ads in similar locations. In an email, the group said it is "still working out the exact message."

StandWithUs said it has countered other anti-Israel ads before in New York, Washington, D.C., Albuquerque, Houston, Chicago, Seattle, San Francisco and elsewhere.

StandWithUs said it is a nonprofit "international Israel education organization" that has been around for 11 years.
