Man arrested for driving car on golf course

Police say a drunk driver drove his car through a golf course, hitting least two golf carts an causing extensive damage.

Chris Meier, 49, of 27 Claire Lane in Sayville, is accused of driving his 1995 Ford Taurus onto the Deepdale Golf Club golf course located at 300 North Service Rd. in Manhasset at 7 p.m. on Tuesday.

Police say people were riding in one of the golf carts that he hit.

They say he drove around the course, causing a lot of damage before the car got stuck in a sand trap.

Meier, according to police, got out of the car and attempted to escape before club employees caught him and police arrested him.

No injuries were reported. Damage to the course is expected to cost more than $10,000.

Meier is charged with criminal mischief, reckless endangerment, and driving while intoxicated.

Meier will be arraigned on Wednesday, July 11th.
