Cop recuperating after crash that killed colleague

Posted: Updated:
MILLVILLE, N.J. (AP) -

A southern New Jersey police officer seriously injured in a weekend crash that killed a colleague has undergone successful surgery and continues to improve, authorities said.

Millville officer Jonathan Seidel was listed in good condition Tuesday, one day after doctors repaired injuries to his left arm. But it is not known how long he will remain hospitalized.

Seidel had joined the force in June and was riding with officer Christopher Reeves as part of a field training program when the crash occurred early Sunday.

Timothy Seidel II, 23, of Commercial Township, who is not related to the injured officer, was fleeing from police when his car crashed into the officers' cruiser, authorities said.

The accident killed Reeves, while Timothy Seidel remains hospitalized in critical condition.
