A Long Island Man was arrested Monday evening after police say he attacked his own mother and started an hours-long standoff that included a gas explosion.
Nassau County Police say that Jeffery S. Anlyan, 45, of 25 Hilltop Place in Albertson walked up to his mother while she was walking her dog just before 8 a.m.
Officers say he threatened to kill her and then pushed her back to her home, took a dagger, a folding knife, and the keys to a motor scooter.
They say he drove the scooter back to his home, which is owned by his mother.
When police arrived, they say Anlyan had a knife and threatened to kill the officers and himself. That's when the standoff started.
They say that at about 9:30 a.m. Anlyan lit an open gas line and caused an explosion.
After nine hours, police say Anlyan came out of a room and threatened officers with appeared to be a gun wrapped in a shirt. An officer quickly stunned him with an impact weapon.
Anlyan was arrested and taken to the hospital to be treated for injuries sustained from the explosion. He was listed in stable condition on Tuesday morning.
He faces several felony charges Police discovered he has open warrant for a probation violation and was in violation of a court order after threatening his mother.
