A soldier from northern New Jersey has died in Afghanistan, the Department of Defense announced.
Staff Sgt. Raul M. Guerra, 37, of Union City, died July 4, in Spin Boldak, the Pentagon said.
The military did not elaborate on how Guerra died.
Guerra was assigned to the 502nd Military Intelligence Battalion, 201st Battlefield Surveillance Brigade, based out of Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Wash.
Guerra was on his fifth deployment to either Iraq or Afghanistan, according to a report on thenewstribune.com. He originally enlisted in 1999 as a mechanic, the report said.
