OYSTER BAY, N.Y. (AP) -

FBI divers and Long Island police officials are set to retrieve a vessel that capsized and sank, killing three children.

Nassau County police said Monday that they had asked the federal agency to help because of its expertise.

The FBI has three vessels and about 20 personnel at the scene.

Investigators are hoping that getting the boat back on land will assist their investigation into how the boat capsized.

Police are trying to determine if the boat was overcrowded. They also hope to learn if the vessel had lifejackets for every passenger.

The operator of the boat has said it was tipped over by a large wave as a storm approached Oyster Bay.

A funeral for the boy who died was held Monday. Services for the two girls are set for Tuesday.

Twenty-four other people escaped from the capsized vessel.

The accident claimed the lives of 12-year-old David Aureliano; his 11-year-old cousin, Harley Treanor; and a family friend, Victoria Gaines. Victoria was about to celebrate her 8th birthday.
