Red-light camera case buys drivers time

Posted: Updated:
TRENTON, N.J. (AP) -

Motorists in 19 New Jersey towns where red-light camera enforcement has been suspended can have their tickets put on hold.

The Asbury Park Press reports the state's acting administrative director of courts also is giving drivers who already paid their fines a second chance.

Judge Glenn Grant says those motorists can seek to reopen the case if the summons was issued at 1 of the 63 intersections under review.

New Jersey suspended the program last month in all but four municipalities in the pilot program, saying the traffic signals were not timed according to standards.

The municipalities have to re-certify the timing of the yellow light by August 1.
