Submarine at Intrepid shaken by wave from cruise ship

MYFOXNY.COM -

A gangway to a historic submarine displayed at the Intrepid Museum was damaged after a strong wave caused by cruise ship knocked it loose.

Authorities said incident took place around 8:00 a.m. as a Norwegian Star Cruise liner was attempting to pull into port just north of the Air, Sea and Space Museum on 12th Avenue at West 46th Street.

The thrust of the cruise ship's engine created a wave that moved the retired Growler submarine to rise up and then down which caused its gangway to fall into the water.

No one was injured and the landmark USS Intrepid battleship sustained no damage.

The museum was closed at the time.
