The Coast Guard has suspended its search for a New York teen swept out to sea to in Hawaii.

However, the local fire department will continue searching for Tyler Madoff for at least another day.

The 15-year-old from White Plains was with a tour group hiking along the shoreline of the Big Island's west coast Wednesday. The group stopped to rest in a tide pool when waves washed him away.

The Coast Guard suspended its search for Tyler at sunset Thursday. The Honolulu Star-Advertiser reports his father was expected to arrive in Hawaii Friday.

In a statement, Tyler's family requested privacy but expressed gratitude for support and prayers.

Neighbor Carol Ashe told the Journal News that the Scarsdale High School student would shovel her driveway in the winter.
