Facebook apps could pose privacy risk

Posted: Updated:
ATLANTA -

Have you played games, read articles, or found out who your celebrity look-alike is on Facebook? If you have, then it's possible that dozens of companies know all about you.

When you use an app on Facebook, you have just let some companies into your Facebook account. If you haven't taken precautions, Facebook explains that those companies can see everything your friends can see -- your pictures, your email address, and where you live.

For example, let's take the celebrity look-alike app.  If you didn't set your profile to 'Private,' then the people behind that app could see everything in your account.

So how do you fix it? Go to account settings and click on "Apps". There may be many listed that you didn't even know that you had.  De-authorize the app by clicking on the little "X" and then hit "Remove."

If there are apps you want to keep, it's important you make your Facebook account private. Make sure you only allow access to applications you trust. Facebook says app makers will still have access to your basic information like name, city of birth, profile picture, and other items.
