A man fell onto the train tracks at the Long Island Rail Road Jamaica station just after 8 a.m Friday, said FDNY officials.

Witnesses told FOX 5 News the man struck the electrified third rail and bystanders stopped an oncoming train from hitting him.

The man was conscious and alert, according to Newsday.

Photos from the scene sent to FOX 5 News showed horrified commuters looking on from the platform.

The man was strapped into a stretcher by EMTs.

A power shutdown was requested of the tracks and the LIRR experienced delays of up to 35 minutes for several hours, according to the MTA website.
