DETROIT (WJBK) -

"This was an, I think, unusual, strong storm.  I didn't realize the wind was blowing as much as it was," said Joseph Baltimore.

That was before he looked out the window.

"It was a little frightening."

A healthy tree was split in two Wednesday night.  The fallen tree ripped the gutters off the house, blocked the door and the garage.

"I'm fortunate and I thank God it wasn't three feet more.  It would've done more damage to the house."

Downed trees and branches were all over Detroit's Palmer Woods neighborhood Thursday after Wednesday's storms roared through.

Michael Rollins lives across from the Baltimores.  Thankfully, he didn't have the same damage, but the last 24 hours haven't been easy.

"Without power, there's really not much we could actually have done," he said.

A massive tree came crashing down on a power line knocking out power to Palmer Woods and other neighborhoods along Woodward.

DTE Energy crews were at a cemetery Thursday working to get power up and running.  Power could be restored by Thursday night.
