Police: several dead animals found in N.Y. home

An upstate woman was arrested on Wednesday on an animal cruelty charge after authorities found dead and malnourished animals in her home, according to New York State Police.

State toopers and Humane Society members searched the home of Christine M. Macan, 61, on Shaw Road in Conklin, in Broome County, and discovered three dead dogs in crates as well as thirteen extremely malnourished dogs, police said.

Authorities also found many decomposing carcasses of mice, hamsters, rabbits, and birds in cages.

Macan is charged with felony aggravated animal cruelty.

All surviving animals were given to the Broome County Humane Society.
