Toddler drowns in a pool on L.I.

Suffolk County detectives say they are investigating the death of a toddler who drowned in a pool Wednesday afternoon on Long Island. 

Police were called to 26 Laurel Avenue in East Islip around 12:39 p.m. 21-month-old Byron McArthur was found by a family member at the bottom of a backyard swimming pool.  

Police arrived to find the child's mother was administering CPR to the boy. McArthur entered the above-ground pool by climbing a ladder. 

The toddler was taken to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore where he was pronounced dead.  

Police say their investigation is ongoing.
