Con Ed and unionized workers resume negotiations

MYFOXNY.COM -

Thousands of locked-out Con Edison workers rallied outside company headquarters in Manhattan Thursday ahead of a meeting between union representatives and company officials.

Contract negotiations couldn't resume at a better time according to customers Fox 5 News spoke to.

Right now, Con Edison managers can be seen in Flatbush responding to a manhole fire because of that fire, voltage is being reduced and many here are hoping they don't lose their power.

Tonight the picket lines at Con Edison Headquarters in Manhattan are empty but Thursday morning; union workers say they'll be out in full force.

Since Sunday, 8,000 workers have been locked out after contract talks failed. 5,000 managers are now out in the field.

On the Upper West Side Wednesday afternoon, one of those managers was injured in a manhole explosion when he received burns to the face.

In Flatbush, managers are out here responding to a smoky manhole fire.

A union representative told Fox 5 News by phone and said workers are eager to get back on the job.

The union is also warning that with temperatures on the rise, power outages are more likely and managers are simply unprepared in keeping New York's lights on.

Negotiations will be resuming at an undisclosed location in the city. Meantime union workers say they'll be holding massive protests Thursday morning at all of their headquarters.
