The nation's largest Independence Day fireworks display celebrates America's birthday over New York City Wednesday night.

The festivities start at approximately 9:20 p.m. as Macy's will set off the nation's largest display of pyrotechnic firepower.

Two-miles of light and color will ignite over the Hudson River filling the sky with explosions in 15 colors and 30 different shapes in a 40,000 shell salute to the nation.

Fired from four barges lined up end-to-end between 18th and 43th Streets on the Hudson, the spectacle will take the night by storm reaching heights of 1,000 feet.

The fireworks show is choreographed to a dazzling patriotic and pop music score.

Prior to the fireworks show, spectators along the West Side will get a special treat when two FDNY Marine Fireboats put on a spectacular water show beginning at 7:30pm.
