Bob Sirott's One More Thing about 4th of July

Posted: Updated:
CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

One more thing, about the Fourth of July holiday.

It's nice that our great, powerful country doesn't celebrate it's independence with huge parades of soldiers and tanks - but with hot dogs and hamburgers.

It's a time for neighborhood get-togethers, and small town celebrations. I love the Norman Rockwell look and feel of the Fourth.

The flags in front of neighborhood homes and along main streets - it's not just about nostalgia, it's a reminder that the special American values and spirit which generations have cherished most, still exists.

I remember one year driving back to Chicago the night of the Fourth from several hundred miles away. Rolling by dozens of Midwestern towns on the highway, I could see all the different fireworks displays in the distance, one after another, lighting up the sky in a continuous show of patriotism.

Whether you're celebrating with sparklers, snakes, and punks in front of your house, or with a big crowd at a fireworks spectacular, have yourself a great American holiday.
