Mayor Bloomberg rejects control proposal of 9/11 memorial

NEW YORK (AP) - New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg has rejected the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey's efforts to have a greater say over the 9/11 memorial.

The mayor said Monday control should remain with the National September 11 Memorial & Museum foundation to keep the site out of "the political process."

The mayor chairs the foundation. The Port Authority, controlled by the two state governors, owns the trade center site. The two sides have been feuding since last year, stalling the 9/11 museum's completion.

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo's spokesman told the Wall Street Journal (http://on.wsj.com/M3E9jz ) the museum shouldn't be politicized. But he added that the mayor and the governors are political officials.

A spokesman for New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie said no one was interested in politicizing anything.
