Police say portions of a three-story brownstone building in Brooklyn collapsed Monday morning. All residents escaped without injury, according to officials.

The collapse happened at around 1:30 a.m.  in the borough's Carroll Gardens neighborhood at 241 Carroll Street.

A total of 15 units including several from neighboring 115 1st Place and 117 1st Place were affected, according to the American Red Cross.

Twenty-one adults and six children were offered emergency relief including food and clothing.

Police say work had previously been done in the building and that city building inspectors are investigating.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
