New Jersey American Water Company has extended the hours of its water distribution centers until 10 p.m. Sunday.
Customers of the water company are encouraged to bring their own water jugs to be filled at the three sites set up in the county.
The water conservation measure is needed after a massive water main break at the New Jersey American Water, Swimming River Treatment Plant in Colts Neck Friday. The plant's pipe bridge collapsed despite being checked just last week, taking three pipes with it.
Richard Barnes, External Affairs Manager with NJ American Water Company, said the pipe bridge did suffer damage during Hurricane Irene last year. In 2011, it was determined that it was structurally sound and not in immediate danger of collapsing.
Barnes added the company has brought material in to start work to replace the bridge.
The company said repairs may take until July 4.
About 200,000 residents around Monmouth County have been impacted by the water boil advisory and ban on outdoor watering.
The water distribution centers will be open from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily, according to the company.
The three centers are located in:
Middletown High School North, 63 Tindall Road, Middletown Township
