History was made in Egypt as for the first time ever -- the country has a freely elected President.

Islamist Mohammed Morsi took the oath of office on Saturday in a historic ceremony.

Morsi later delivered his inauguration address in a lecture hall jammed packed with thousands of followers at Cairo University.

The new president urged the military to surrender the power it currently holds to his elected administration.

Morsi succeeds ex-President Hosni Mubarak who was ousted from office 16 months ago.
