BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (AP) - Commuters facing long delays after a train collision disrupted their route along Connecticut's shoreline can look forward to easier traveling. Rail service from Connecticut to New York City, along with Amtrak service between Boston and New York, is expected to resume by this morning's rush hour.
HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) - Governor Dannel Malloy's choice for Connecticut's Child Advocate is stepping down after less than nine months on the job. In a resignation letter submitted yesterday, Jamey Bell said she's leaving to become the new executive director of Greater Hartford Legal Aid. Bell had previously worked 26 years for the nonprofit law firm that serves needy clients.
HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) - The state Appellate Court has issued a ruling blasting a Connecticut prosecutor for repeated misconduct and ordering a new trial for a man serving life in prison for the killing of a Waterbury bar owner in 1998. The state's second-highest court overturned the murder and felony murder convictions of Victor Santiago yesterday. The judges say Waterbury prosecutor Terence Mariani Jr. made improper comments during his closing arguments to the jury.
HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) - Senator Chris Murphy is asking Senate leaders to solve the longstanding problem of where to dispose of nuclear waste. Connecticut's junior senator wrote to Democratic and Republican members of the Energy and Natural Resources Committee yesterday offering his support for legislation that would establish a federal agency and consent-based procedures to manage nuclear waste.
