CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -
Severe storms pushed through the Chicago area and traveled east as of Friday afternoon.
They produced hail as large as ping pong balls and damaging winds in excess of 60 mph. There was also intense lightning with up to 1,500 strikes in a one hour period.
Check out the viewer pictures of the spectacular shelf clouds, roll clouds and mammatus clouds.
A severe Thunderstorm Watch is in effect for Northwest Indiana and Kankakee County until 7 p.m. Friday.
Unfortunately we are in a moderate drought and the brief down pours provided by the storms have provided no relief from that.
The focal point for the storms is a frontal boundary which is now stationary and draped across our area south of I-80. This will continue to be the focal point of isolated storms through early next week.
South of the boundary there is a Heat Advisory for Livingston, Ford and Iroquois Counties. Temperatures there could reach 98-105 degrees with heat indices up to 110.
North of the boundary most of the Chicago area will see temperatures in the low to mid 90s through July 4.
Along the lakeshore and downtown there may be some relief from a Lake breeze Friday, but our extended Heat Wave will continue for most of the area.
