CENTER LINE, Mich. (WJBK) -

It's supposed to be a family event.  In a video from last year's Center Line fireworks show kids were laughing and cheering.  This year, those cheers turned to screams when someone brought a gun to the party.

"Saw these people arguing back and forth, and it's about eleven o'clock, they start running towards my direction," one person told us.

No one would go on camera, but witnesses say a 19-year-old from Warren was shot once in the back.  He crawled across the street for help collapsing right in front of the Center Line Fire Department.  He was unable to tell police what happened, and it seems everyone saw something different.

"It just makes it a little more difficult to find out exactly what happened.  Everybody has a different perspective of what they saw and where they saw it, and putting it all together is our jobs, but it's the difficult part to the job," said Public Safety Director Paul Myzenski.

The victim is expected to make a full recovery.  As soon as he's well enough to speak, police will get the full story from the only person who seems to know the truth.

"It's terrible because this whole event was put together for the benefit of the community and for families to sit back and enjoy it," Myzenski said.
