Commission approves expansion to West End Avenue Historic District

The Landmark Preservation Commission voted unanimously to approve an expansion of the West End Avenue Historic District, bringing tears of joy to many locals who had fought for five years to make it happen, DNAinfo.com reported.
The board even gave the plan's supports more than they had asked for.
However, some residents, businesses and landlords in the area oppose the plan. The Real Estate Board of New York has pointed out that landmarking means property owners will have to jump through hoops to make even minor changes and updates to buildings.
The proposal now goes before the City Council for action.
