Metal debris from an elevated subway trestle plummeted onto a busy Bronx street below, witness said.
Turns out the falling object was a track bolt, the MTA confirmed.
The bolt appears to be about a foot long. It weighs at least five pounds.
"We will conduct a thorough inspection of the entire area and take all necessary steps to prevent this from happening again," a transit spokesperson said in a statement.
The spiritual leader of a mosque in Parkchester section of the borough reached out to the community and media about the incident.
Imam Sheikh Moussa Drammeh said that the hunk of metal fell just steps away from Masjid Al Iman on Westchester Avenue while adults and children went about their business on the street.
Drammeh says falling track parts is nothing new in the area but this is the largest piece that's fallen.
No one was hurt.
The 6 train runs along the elevated subway tracks.
