C.C. Sabathia placed on disabled list

NEW YORK (AP) -

The Yankees have placed ace CC Sabathia on the 15-day disabled list because he has a strained groin.

General manager Brian Cashman says the left-hander felt a twinge on Sunday night in the fourth inning of a game against the New York Mets. However, he didn't tell anyone about it until after he could still feel discomfort following his bullpen session on Tuesday.

Manager Joe Girardi says the Yankees expect to have Sabathia, who is 9-3 with a 3.45 ERA, back shortly after the All-Star break.
