DETROIT (WJBK) -

In southwest Detroit, an officer on a motorcycle has been injured in a crash.  Inspector Leslie Montgomery's leg was broken in a few places, but he's going to be okay.  He was rushed to Detroit Receiving Hospital.

All of this happened around 3:00 p.m. Monday at 20th Street and Vernor.  We're told the inspector was heading west on Vernor and was struck by an SUV turning left into the driveway of state Rep. Rashida Tlaib's office.  The motorist told police he didn't see the officer on his bike.

Tlaib witnesses the crash from her window.

"It was scary, but thank God the driver was not intoxicated.  Hit the motorcycle, just did not see it, and he was rolling down the street and it was very shocking to see through my window of my office.  But he's fine.  He just got the call that there's no internal bleeding, just a fracture or two," she said.

That driver of the SUV was 24 years old.  We're told he was a student who was dropping off some constituency paperwork to Tlaib's office.

Right after the crash, he went into the office.  We tried to talk to him, but Tlaib told us that he was very shaken up.  He was bruised, but not seriously injured.
