First responders took part in a disaster drill at John F. Kennedy Airport early Sunday morning.

Over 200 firefighters, police and federal agents displayed their skills in a real life scenario involving smoke to the 500 volunteers who performed the role of victims.

The responders reacted to a staged JetBlue plane crash into a hangar flanked with smoke machines and 350 victims and a car bombing into a passenger terminal and exploding also with smoke and victims.

The intense drill was planned a year ago and was designed to test coordination and communication between more than 20 agencies.

"This is about readiness and preparation and team work and collaboration with each of the federal, state and local agencies airline partners and others that would be involved in this were this to happen at one of our facilities," said Pat Foye, Executive Dir. of the Port Authority.

During the drill, evaluators kept and eye on the response effort and will be preparing an overall assessment report.
