Soda-stealing California teen gets arm stuck in vending machine

NATIONAL CITY, Calif. -

A teenage boy who tried to steal a soda from a vending machine had to be rescued by the emergency services when he got his arm stuck in the receiving slot.

A trolley rider called for help after spotting the unnamed 17-year-old with his arm lodged inside a Coca-Cola machine on 22nd Street in National City at around 5:00am local time Saturday.

The thirsty teen spent an hour sitting on the sidewalk with his arm trapped inside the soda machine before firefighters were able to free him, KGTV reported.

Rescuers took axes, crowbars and an air chisel to the machine before eventually using a rotary saw to cut off the lock on the door to free the beanie-wearing high-schooler.

The youngster, who was attended to by waiting medics, said his arm was sore but not badly hurt.

Officers took the boy into custody, and he may face charges of petty theft.
