Police search for gunman in Mt. Vernon shooting

Mount Vernon Police are looking for the suspect involved in the shooting of a man early Saturday morning. 

Authorities are searching for 38-year-old Izar Smith in connection with the shooting.  

According to police, Smith has a prior arrest history, should be considered armed and dangerous. 

Police were called to 21 N. Bond Street at 8:40 p.m. and found man shot in front of the apartment building. The unidentified victim suffered gunshot wounds to his chest and leg. 

The victim and anther another individual where sitting in front of the building when Smith approached them and fired multiple shots, according to police. 

EMS took the victim to Jacoby Medical Center where he was undergoing surgery.
