Experts warn of very busy summer for bugs

Mosquitoes, ants, ticks and bees are coming out in the tri-state area and all over the U.S. this summer according to experts.

The mild winter, mellow spring and warm and wet conditions in the Northeast created a flourishing bug population.

Experts say we should look out for the Asian tiger mosquito -- a very aggressive version of mosquito that bites during the day. Many types of bugs have arrived far ahead of schedule according to one expert.

A major concern of having extra mosquitoes around this summer is the possible rise in numbers of West Nile Virus cases. In 2010, eleven people in the New York City area contracted the virus -- two of them died.

Residents can help prevent the insect's breeding grounds which usually involves water collection sites.  A superintendent from the Mosquito Vector Control for Suffolk County said to try and get rid of any standing water, especially after a rain.

He also recommended disposing of any buckets, birdbaths, anything that picks up water. Mosquitoes are bread water from a paper cup or even a bottle cap.
