Thousands of hopeful singers made their way to the Prudential Center as American Idol auditions came to Newark Saturday morning.

Five thousand contestants showed up to the arena excited for the once in a lifetime experience.

Fox 5 went behind the scenes of American idol today as thousands auditioned to be the next singing superstar at Newark's Prudential Center.

Stephanie Havney of Point Pleasant, NJ couldn't wait to turn 15 so she could audition this year.

And when there wasn't singing there was flipping and a whole lot of screaming, especially for American Idol host Ryan Seacrest.

Ladies, this media mogul is as friendly as he is adorable.

"This is great audience," said Seacrest. I feel such a connection with these contestants which why I love this job."

It seems like only yesterday that Season 11 wrapped up with Phillip Phillips winning it all.

Now there's word runner up Jessica Sanchez has landed a spot on "Glee."

Sure everyone has the desire to be the next idol, but only a very few have what it takes.

"America I'm coming!" said Sadesia Ray of Union, NJ.

If you missed this audition, don't worry, the next American Idol audition will be in Chicago on July 12th.
