SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35 ORLANDO) -
George Zimmerman's attorney released a video of his client speaking to police at the Sanford Police station and in a patrol car.
In the interview, Zimmerman says things quickly escalated when he says Martin realized he was armed. "He like sat up and looked and said "you're gonna die tonight *expletive*" and I saw him take one hand off my mouth and slide it down my chest and I just pinched his arm and I grabbed my gun and aimed it at him and fired one shot," said Zimmerman.
Zimmerman says when officers arrived he confessed to pulling the trigger right away. "I got up off of him because he stopped struggling and I thought he had just stopped struggling and then I holstered my weapon and I saw another flashlight and I said are you the police because I had blood all over my face and my eyes and the flashlight, it was dark where I was so the flashlight was really bright and I said 'are you the police?' and he said 'who shot him' and I said 'I did.' "
The 28-year-old has been charged with second-degree murder after he shot and killed Trayvon Martin in a gated community in Sanford on February 26th. Zimmerman claims the shooting was in self-defense. Martin was not armed.
Zimmerman was released on $150,000 bond. It was revoked after prosecutors alleged Shellie Zimmerman misled the court about their finances.
Zimmerman is pleading not guilty, claiming self-defense. He has a second bond hearing next week.
