Ex-cop admits raping teacher

Convicted former NYPD officer Michael Pena plead guilty to rape -- a charge a jury had deadlocked on -- during a hearing at Manhattan Supreme Court on Thursday.

Pena, already serving a 75-years-to-life sentence for sexually assaulting a schoolteacher, was sentenced to an additional 10 years to run concurrently.

Last March, a jury deadlocked on rape and predatory sex assault charges against the disgraced cop.

Prosecutors said Pena dragged his victim into an apartment building alley in the Inwood section of Manhattan last August and threatened to shoot her before sodomizing her.

A resident of the building heard the attack and called police.

The guilty plea would spare the victim the pain of a retrial, said judge Richard Carruthers.

"We've worked out a favorable plea deal," Pena's lawyer, Ephrarim Savitt, told the New York Post.

"This plea spares the victim from testifying again about the crimes committed against her, and it is my hope this resolution brings a brave young teacher a measure of justice and closure," D.A. Cy Vance Jr. said in a statement.

During the trial, Savitt said the officer attacked the woman but never had intercourse with her, a requirement for a rape conviction. The defense said the woman was so terrified that she was mistaken about the extent of what had happened.
