The National Weather Service issued an Excessive Heat Warning for New York City on Wednesday. That warning was taken down at about 6 p.m. -- two hours early.

Heat Index values are forecast to be between 105 and 108 degrees. These conditions are dangerous to health.

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation has issued Air Quality Health Advisories for Long Island and New York City. Many municipalities have opened cooling centers. In New York City, call 311 or click here.

In other communities, call your local officials.

A toll free Air Quality Hotline (1-800-535-1345) has been established by DEC to keep New Yorkers informed of the latest Air Quality situation.

Further information on ozone is available on DEC's web site at http://www.dec.ny.gov and http://www.health.ny.gov/environmental/outdoors/air/ozone.htm on the DOH website.
