A Brooklyn boy is blind in one eye after a brutal lunchroom attack and now the family is suing the city.
"I can't see from my right eye. Nothing," Kardin Ulysse says.
Ulysse, 14, has undergone two surgeries and needs a transplant following the June 5 beating at Roy H. Mann Junior High School.
The family held a news conference on Tuesday to discuss the $16 million lawsuit against the city for failing to properly supervise the children at school.
One 7th-grader allegedly pinned the victim's arms while another attacked him.
"They were beating him, punching him, kicking him in the face many times," his father Pierre Ulysse said.
It is unclear whether the blows or shards from his broken glasses caused the damage to his cornea.
The two boys allegedly were yelling gay slurs at Ulysse as they attacked him.
Ulysse told his father that he had been bullied since October and the school administration had done nothing despite being contacted several times.
"He's scared to go back to school. He's afraid they are going to beat him up again," Pierre Ulysse says.
The Department of Education released a statement saying: "This matter was taken very seriously...Two students were arrested and the victim was taken to the hospital...The two students arrested also face disciplinary action. The matter is under investigation."
Other students say bullying is a constant problem at the school.
One girl told Fox 5 News that she had previously been choked by a boy and was most recently attacked in a stairwell on Monday. She had a bandaged arm and scratches from the incident.
The two boys arrested in the attack against Ulysee only face misdemeanor charges because of their ages.
