A bullet-proof vest helped protect a state trooper when a suicidal teen attempted to stab him.
It happened on Sunday in Sodus, N.Y.
Police say Trooper Eric Weingartner was sent to a home at about 9:10 p.m. for a report of a suicidal 14-year-old.
The trooper determined that the boy needed to be taken to a hospital for a mental evaluation.
The teen then took out a knife he had been hiding under his clothes and attempted to drive it into the trooper's chest.
The trooper was uninjured due to the knife striking him in his ballistic vest.
The boy is being held at Strong memorial Hospital for a mental health evaluation.
