Another L.I. town to consider smoking ban

Posted: Updated:
SMITHTOWN, L.I. (AP) -

Another town on Long Island is considering an outdoor smoking ban.

Smithtown Supervisor Patrick Vecchio wants to ban smoking at town parks, beaches and playgrounds.

Newsday reports that the ban isn't likely to be enacted before the end of summer. It also would outlaw smoking within 50 feet of town buildings.

The measure would go before the town board.

New York City and at least six other Long Island towns restrict smoking in parks, playgrounds or beaches.
