Syrian violence brings U.N. monitoring mission to halt

The increased violence in Syria is brining the United Nations monitoring mission to stop.

The U.N. General in command of the operation said it's too unstable and dangerous to put his unarmed monitors in the violence.

The U.N. has 298 military observers and 112 civilian staff who are part of the monitoring staff. The monitoring mission has been attempting to cease the violence since April.

Syrian forces have endangered the monitoring mission with an explosive offensive in recent days against civilians. The U.N. monitors have witnessed heavy shelling in populated areas.

The Syrian offensive has killed hundreds of people the last two months since the ceasefire deal was brokered.
