Police may have found truck connected to Coon Rapids hit-and-run

MINNEAPOLIS (KMSP) -

Authorities think they may have found the vehicle involved in the hit-and-run accident that left 9-year-old Amir Taylor in critical condition after he was hit outside his grandmother's house in Coon Rapids.

It is still too early to say definitively that investigators have found the pick-up involved in the hit and run, but the lead is promising enough that the Anoka County Sheriff's Office got a search warrant and towed the Chevy truck to it's garage in Andover.

Tonight, technicians are going over the truck with a fine-tooth comb. They'll be looking for any forensic evidence – blood, hair, paint transfer – to link the vehicle to Wednesday's hit-and-run that left young Amir Taylor in critical condition.

The pick up truck was originally brought to Lehman's Garage in downtown Minneapolis yesterday morning, even before the media circulated an accurate description of the suspect vehicle.

Fox 9 was told it has a shattered window, damage to the driver's side door, as well as a broken mirror.

The owner paid cash us front and wanted the repairs done immediately, but staff had a feeling about the pick-up and called authorities.

"He wouldn't give me any information as far as what happened. He was very adamant on making sure it got done right away," said Lehman's Garage employee Jill Hodel. "Wanted it fixed. Wanted it fixed now."

The processing of the vehicle will take sometime before it can be ruled either in or out in this case.

The Anoka County Sheriff's Office is telling Fox 9 they know who owns the pick-up and where they can find him if they definitely link him to the hit-and-run and an arrest will be warranted.

As for Amir Taylor, the youngster is still listed in critical condition at North Memorial Hospital.
