DETROIT (WJBK) -

Detroit Police narcotics officers took more than a million dollars worth of drugs off the streets.  It may sound like a lot, but it's the kind of work they do on a regular basis.

"During this three-day operation, Detroit Police narcotic officers raided a total of 43 homes, arrested 87 persons, that's 22 felony and 65 misdemeanor arrests, seized eight vehicles, confiscated 20 firearms, and taken in a street value of $1.3-million worth of heroin, cocaine, marijuana and various pills and over $12,600 in narcotics proceeds," said Detroit Police Chief Ralph Godbee.

This is just a fraction of what narcotics officers found during their raids.  The job was far from easy.

"During the raid at the house where James Culpepper was found, once the officers entered the dwelling, James Culpepper opened fire on the officers that were inside the dwelling," said Lieutenant Harold Rochon.

None of the officers were hit and close calls like that prove why they're work is so important.

"Every citizen complaint we get relative to a house, a lot of the street activity we see, these are the men and women that are nameless and faceless to the public, but to us they mean the world," Godbee said.

Narcotics officers depend on tips from people in the community, so if you live near a drug house or you know of a drug dealer in your neighborhood, contact Detroit Police.
