DMC implements nicotine-free hiring policy

Posted: Updated:
DETROIT (WJBK) -

Beginning July 1, smokers need not apply for jobs at Detroit Medical Center locations. According to the DMC, all applicants hired will be required to complete a nicotine screening as part of their pre-placement assessment.

The policy does not apply to current employees, but they're being encouraged to take advantage of DMC smoking cessation services.

Officials say the DMC joins other Michigan healthcare employers, including Oakwood Healthcare System in Dearborn, Crittenton Hospital in Rochester, Botsford Hospital in Farmington Hills, and Sparrow Hospital in Lansing by implementing its nicotine-free hiring policy.
