An electrical incident in the basement of the Hilton Hotel in Midtown Manhattan injured at least two workers Wednesday afternoon and prompted a power outage, authorities said.
Several people were working on an electrical closet when some equipment exploded, according to a New York Post report.
More than 60 firefighters responded to the scene. Responders searched the building's elevators and meeting rooms to make sure everyone got out. Responders rescued nine people from stalled elevators.
"Con Edison and the New York Fire Department are on the scene investigating the situation. At this time no evacuation has been deemed necessary," according to the statement by a Hilton New York spokesperson. "The safety, security and well being of our guests and team members remain our top priority. As such we are working with the local authorities to quickly resolve this issue."
The hotel said power was restored Wednesday night.
Initial emergency transmissions reported a transformer fire, but the FDNY called it an "electrical condition" that did not spark a fire.
Witnesses reported smoky conditions.
One worker suffered burns and was taken to NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital.
A woman who suffered an anxiety attack refused medical treatment, the FDNY said.
