BOYNTON BEACH, Fla. -

A woman was found engulfed in flames Monday outside a southern Florida 7-Eleven store in a dispute with the father of her child, police said.

The unidentified victim survived and was recovering from severe burns at a hospital. A suspect, identified as 59-year-old Roosevelt Monesir, was arrested and jailed.

Police arrived at the convenience store in Boynton Beach, about 30 miles north of Fort Lauderdale, at around 3:00 a.m. Monday and found the 40-year-old woman, who had been doused with gasoline and set ablaze.

Two officers put out the fire and gave the victim first aid.

She had gone to the store to pick up their 4-year-old son that they shared custody.

Witnesses said the Monesir fled the scene, prompting a search involving a police helicopter and K-9 units that lasted several hours.

Monesir was eventually found, arrested and booked into the Palm Beach County jail after being treated for burns.  He faces attempted murder charges.
