The MTA is hoping to ease overcrowding and decrease wait times with the addition of 98 weekly, round trips on the L subway line.

The added service which began Sunday, includes sixteen round trips added each weekday with eleven round trips on Saturday and seven round trips on Sunday.

"This is a perfect example of how our commitment of capital dollars to improve our signal system directly impacts the safety and quality of our service," said MTA NYCT President Thomas F. Prendergast. "

The continuously growing population in Brooklyn was cited as one of the primary reasons for the additional service.

The added service breaks down in the following ways for commuters:

· Customers during the a.m. rush hour can expect a train every three minutes, up from every 3 ½ minutes;

· Weekday customers traveling midday can expect a train every six minutes, up from every 7 ½ minutes;

· Saturday evening customers can expect a train every six minutes, up from every 7 ½ minutes; and

· Sunday evening customers can expect a train every six minutes, up from every 8 ½

minutes.
