Funeral services were held for a soldier from New Jersey who was killed in Afghanistan last month.

Family and friends turned out for 22-year-old Army Pfc. Leroy DeRonde III Saturday morning at Holy Cross Cemetery in North Arlington.

DeRonde, who was from Jersey City, was one of two soldiers killed when their unit was attacked on May 27 in the Chak-E Wardak district.

DeRonde joined the Army in 2011 to help support his family after his mother died. He leaves behind his father and his 17-year-old brother.
