David Alan Grier talks about his role of Sporting Life in the show "The Gershwins' Porgy and Bess." He is nominated for Best Feature Actor in a Musical.
The musical is set in Charleston's Catfish Row. Bess struggles to break free from scandalous past and only one who can rescue her is crippled but courageous Porgy. Grier's role is called Sporting Life -- he is a hustler of drugs, sex and so forth to the dirt-poor denizens of Catfish Row.
The musical has earned 10 Tony nominations, including Best Revival of a Musical.
