ROMULUS, Mich. (WJBK) -
Around 45 World War II veterans from Michigan were treated to a special flight to the nation's capital on Tuesday.
Ford Motor Company sponsored a trip for the vets to visit the World Word II Memorial in honor of the 68th anniversary of D-Day, the day Allied troops landed along the beaches of Normandy, France to fight Nazi Germany.
"I probably never would have gone to Washington if it hadn't been for this trip," one vet told FOX 2's Al Allen.
The vets were greeted by Ford employees at Metro Airport before 6 a.m. After their arrival in Washington, D.C., the veterans will be greeted by members of Congress and Ford employees at the Memorial, and receive letters of appreciation from Ford employees, family members and others.
