Macomb County to issue health violations against K2

Posted: Updated:

MOUNT CLEMENS, Mich. (AP) -- Officials in Michigan are taking aim at synthetic marijuana that's sold in convenience stores and other shops.

Macomb County says it plans to issue health violations starting this week related to products sold under brand names including "Spice" and "K2."

County officials say they'll seek help from the public in reporting places where they're being offered.

The products produce a high when smoked and have been linked to severe adverse reactions, including death.

Efforts are under way in Lansing to toughen state law related to synthetic marijuana, but local officials say they're not waiting for the Legislature to act. On Friday, officials in Oakland County asked gas stations, convenience stores and other retailers to cease the sale of such products.

Other communities, such as West Bloomfield Township, are considering bans.
